Frequently asked

What people
usually ask first

Practical answers about the framework, the process, the fee and what it means to start therapy.

With a phone call to 693 731 3818: a short conversation is enough to see what is troubling you, which setting fits and when we can start. If you prefer to write, use the contact form or email kourmpeti@yahoo.gr and I will get back to you.

Tuesday and Thursday 09:00–20:00, Wednesday and Friday 16:00–20:00. The practice is closed on Mondays. All sessions are by appointment — there are no walk-ins.

A session lasts 50 minutes. Frequency is decided together and usually starts weekly, so the therapeutic relationship can be built and the work has continuity; it is then adjusted to your needs and goals.

The first meeting is an introductory and clinical assessment session: we take a history, map out what brings you here and discuss therapeutic goals. You do not need to have "classified" the problem before you come — that is part of the work. By the end you will know how I propose we work, and you can decide.

Yes. Sessions take place either at the practice in Thessaloniki or online, with the same way of working and the same duration. The online option suits people who live far from the centre, travel often or live abroad. You only need a quiet space and a stable connection.

Yes. Confidentiality is a fundamental principle and binds the psychologist under the code of ethics. Exceptions apply only where there is serious risk to the life of the person or of a third party, or where the law explicitly requires it. In couples and family work, the confidentiality framework is agreed explicitly with everyone from the start.

The fee is discussed openly at first contact, before you book — so there are no surprises. It varies with the setting (individual, couples or family). Call 693 731 3818 and I will tell you straight away.

Sessions in a private psychology practice are not reimbursed by the Greek national insurer (EOPYY). Some private health policies cover part of the cost, with conditions that vary by contract — it is worth asking your insurer. A receipt for services is always issued.

It depends on the request. A focused difficulty — a phobia, performance anxiety — may take a few months. Issues involving life patterns, trauma or relationships take longer. We review progress together at regular intervals, so that nothing continues by inertia.

Your session is held exclusively for you. Cancellations are accepted without charge if you let me know at least 24 hours in advance. There is always flexibility for sudden health emergencies — the point is predictability, not penalty.

Certainly, and it is often exactly what is indicated. Medication stabilises symptoms so therapeutic work becomes possible; psychotherapy works on what medication cannot change. A psychologist does not prescribe, alter or discontinue medication — that is your psychiatrist's responsibility alone.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor: they diagnose and prescribe medication. A psychologist carries out clinical assessment and psychotherapy. Often both are needed. If in the first meeting I judge that you need a psychiatric assessment, I will tell you directly.

By video call, at the same time and for the same duration. You need a stable connection, headphones and — most importantly — a space where nobody can hear or interrupt you. The link is sent before each session.

Clinical work at the practice is for adults, couples and families. Where the request concerns a minor, the setting is parent counselling, which is often the most effective point of intervention anyway. If individual work with the child is needed, I will refer you to a colleague with that specialism.

Yes. The therapeutic work can be done equally in Greek and in English, in person or online.

It gets said, and it is not a failure. The therapeutic relationship is the strongest predictor of outcome — if it is not there, better to name it early. We will discuss it openly and, if needed, I will suggest colleagues.

In crisis? Psychotherapy is not an emergency service. If you are thinking of harming yourself or someone else, do not wait for an appointment: call 1018 (Suicide Intervention Line, 24/7), 10306 (Psychological Support Line) or 112.
