Difficulties

Three requests that do not fit the general heading of "anxiety or mood": grief, the relationship with food and the body, and living with a chronic diagnosis.

Grief, eating, chronic illness: requests that need a framework — and a pace — of their own.

Why separately

These three have something in common: the world around gives the people living them the wrong advice with the best intentions. "Time heals everything." "Just eat normally." "Don't think about it, it'll pass." None of it helps, and all of it leaves behind the sense that something is wrong with you because it does not work.

So they need a framework of their own. In grief, time without a deadline and without prescribed stages. In eating disorders, work that does not start with food but with control, shame and body image — and alongside a physician and a dietitian. In chronic illness, acknowledgement that the body genuinely hurts, together with the work of keeping the diagnosis from swallowing the identity.

In crisis? Psychotherapy is not an emergency service. If you are thinking of harming yourself or someone else, do not wait for an appointment: call 1018 (Suicide Intervention Line, 24/7), 10306 (Psychological Support Line) or 112.
